<p>When it comes to fat loss and losing weight there is an overwhelming amount of information. If you&#8217;re like most people who want to lose weight you may feel somewhat bewildered and confused by all the diet and nutrition advice given by so many different fat loss experts. The tough part is that much of this advice overlooks the basic physiological premise for weight loss and long-term health &#8211; alkalinity!</p>
<p>Our bodies operate within a fine pH equilibrium. If we are too acidic, we invite disease and &#8220;fatness&#8221; to grow rampant. 2-time Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Linus Pauling, was the first to show to that cancer cannot grow in an alkaline environment. Many years later, though, most people have no idea what being alkaline means.</p>
<p>Being alkaline means not being acidic. The most important bodily tissue &#8211; our blood &#8211; requires a slightly alkaline pH to operate perfectly. If not, red blood cells begin to die, coagulate, and expel their waste into the blood. Oxygen transport to the cells becomes compromised and the body begins removing dangerous acid out from the blood and storing in our fat cells.</p>
<p>The body&#8217;s fat cells hold onto this acid as a protective mechanism since acid in the blood or vital organs can be lethal. Therefore, your ability to burn fat is related to your body&#8217;s acid-alkaline balance. You will find it very hard lose fat if you are acidic. It&#8217;s simple &#8211; your body needs to keep the fat around to hold onto to the acid. Once the acid lessens, the fat will follow.</p>
<p>So when you hear &#8220;experts&#8221; promoting high protein diets or other similar weight loss gimmicks you need to ask yourself if the foods they promote are acid or alkaline-forming in the body. For instance, all animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) are acid-forming in the body. Most grains and refined sugars are as well. A diet high in these foods can only result in an acidic body.</p>
<p>It has been said that our diet should be 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. However, I&#8217;m sure you can see that the Western diet &#8211; full of its processed, refined, and high fat foods &#8211; is the exact opposite. It&#8217;s no wonder that obesity is such a problem in Westernized countries.</p>
<p>So what foods are alkaline-forming?</p>
<p>Fruits and vegetables. The reason for this is that they are abundant in alkalizing minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium while possessing lower concentrations of acidifying properties such as sulfur and nitrogen.</p>
<p>The best sources of alkalinity of all foods are greens. Grasses, green vegetables, and sea vegetables are some examples. A diet rich in green foods will not only help prevent the onset of disease but it will keep you thin.</p>
<p>As you incorporate more green foods into your diet you will become more alkaline &#8211; displacing needless acid &#8211; and improving your fat loss efforts. Think about it&#8230;how many overweight vegans or vegetarians do you know? Obviously being vegetarian doesn&#8217;t guarantee weight loss because many of these people can also have atrocious diets. However, their chance of staying thin is far better than someone who eats burgers and other garbage foods.</p>
<p>How to alkalize your body?</p>
<p>Eat for health and you will alkalize your body and lose weight. Here are 4 strategies to help you alkalize your body for optimal fat loss (and health) results:</p>
<p>1. Eat more fruits and vegetables and get plenty of greens. My rule of thumb is to consume at least 1 green juice and/or salad each day.</p>
<p>2. Drink plenty of water. You should drink at least half your body weight (lbs) in ounces each day.</p>
<p>3. Breathe! Take a few minutes each day and focus on deep breathing. Oxygen is alkalizing.</p>
<p>4. Minimize and avoid processed foods, artificial sweeteners, and nutrition-deficient drinks like coffee and sodas.</p>

<p>We live in a world where there are more fad diets than ever before. With weight loss becoming a massive problem in our society it’s know wander there are many so-called experts claiming to have the ‘answers’ in the form of a diet or weight loss pill. So in this article I will unravel why dieting is disastrous for your long term weight loss goals.</p>
<p>The stress of forcing yourself to eat less or denying yourself the foods you’re craving, day in and day out, causes hormonal and chemical changes in your body. These changes act as a signal to your brain that it’s time to go into fat conservation mode.</p>
<p><strong>Dieting sends only one message to your brain:</strong></p>
<p>‘There’s not enough food around. We’d better put every spare calorie we can into fat, because we don’t know where our next meal is coming from’.</p>
<p>In essence, dieting sends a famine message to your body that triggers your body to hang onto its fat stores.</p>
<p>Diets all follow a similar pattern. You lose weight quickly and then the rate at which you lose weight starts to slow. Eventually you stop losing weight altogether. So you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to diet, not to lose weight, but to simply maintain your weight. You feel like you’re running on a treadmill that keeps going faster. You know you’ve got to keep running but the longer you go, the harder it gets.</p>
<p>Many experts now believe dieting can actually make you overweight. Studies have shown teenagers who diet are statistically three times more likely to be overweight in five years time.</p>
<p><strong>So what the answer?</strong></p>
<p>Jump off the diet bandwagon, try and focus long term by eating a well balance diet that still includes the odd treat but add lots of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as lean meats, fish and nuts for protein and complex carbohydrates for long lasting energy.</p>

<p>ur dieting plan &#8220;bogged&#8221;?<BR />Then maybe it is time to &#8220;throw caution to the wind&#8221;and try some extreme dieting like the low 500 a day calorie diet</P><P>But stop and think for a moment. It&#8217;s no good shooting yourself in the foot! Of all the low-calorie diets on the market, the 500 calorie diet is one of the lowest.</P><P>What&#8217;s a &#8216;low-calorie diet&#8217;? A low diet is any diet plan that requires you to consume less than 1200 in any one day. A low-calorie diet is usually used during the course of another, longer-term diet to lose more weight quickly or to speed up weight loss that has started to flatten out. A 500 a day calorie diet is not for the fain hearted it is actually a serious commitment that can have some bad effects on your health and well-being. Also, if used wrongly, a 500 calorie diet or any other very low-calorie diet can cause you to put on more weight! So check out the following:</P><P>As dieters well know, losing weight is a question of burning more calories than you eat. However, a diet that is too low in calories for your body&#8217;s immediate needs can actually shock it into &#8217;starvation mode&#8217;. When the human body is desperate for more energy (calories) it changes its metabolic rate and sources of energy. This will force your body to start to burn,and dissolve your muscle structure.</P><P>To lose weight, you actually need to gain muscle. So &#8217;starvation mode&#8217; is to be avoided. If there are no food reserves to take energy from and you start burning muscle, you&#8217;ll simply slow down and stop losing weight &#8211; and burning muscles has serious health risks attached.</P><P>Therefore it&#8217;s necessary to check about your diet plans with a professional dietician or nutritionist before starting. This is especially important if you&#8217;ve decided that the 500 calorie diet is right for you.</P><P>500 calories per day may be enough for certain people. It depends on: &#8211; Overall health and well being &#8211; Gender (men need more calories than women, but pregnant and breast-feeding women need more) &#8211; Height &#8211; Activity level (sports, work, lifestyle etc) &#8211; Body type</P><P>But if you are overweight already, eating only 500 calories a day will tend to make your body feel like it&#8217;s being starved. An overweight body is probably accustomed to ingesting more than 2000 calories per day &#8211; even 5000 or more. If you suddenly drop your calories intake to 500 a day you will cause yourself to go into starvation. The metabolism slows down to conserve energy and the muscle mass starts being drained.</P><P>It&#8217;s much better and more effective in terms of weight loss to gradually teach your body to live with fewer calories. But once you&#8217;re on 500 calories per day, you have to stay there! If, like many lapsed or even successful low-calorie dieters, you then go back to eating your old high levels of calories, you will experience a sudden unwelcome gain in weight. The irony is that this weight gain will be greater than if you had not gone on the 500 calorie diet to begin with.</P><P>So what&#8217;s the answer?</P><P>Instead of thinking &#8216;I&#8217;m only allowed 500 calories per day&#8217;, start thinking &#8216;I&#8217;ll decrease my calorie intake by 500 calories per day&#8217;. This is the route to steady, permanent weight loss with no shocks to the metabolism. Use a body mass calculator to work out your ideal calorie intake. This will tell you how many calories will maintain your current weight at your current levels of activity. Now, just minus 500 calories off this figure, and bingo! &#8211; this is the number of calories you should eat each day to lose weight while keeping your body happy and your metabolism efficient.</P><P>Unless you plan a 500 calories diet carefully with an expert or medical doctor,then it can become a risk matter to your health. A better way to lose weight quickly is to reduce your current calorie intake by 500 calories per day, and when your body is used to a lower calorie intake, think about a short spell on the 500 calorie diet to boost your weight loss.<BR /></P>
